Blue Fin brings coast to Upstate

Blue Fin Grill offers coastal cuisine and decor in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The restaurant opened four months ago and serves a variety of seafood, including shrimp, tuna, trout and wreckfish, which is commonly found off the South Carolina coast.

“We want to give Spartanburg a little something different,” said Cindy Suchenski, the restaurant’s general manager.

Blue Fin Grill is in the former Chandi’s Bistro building, on Spartanburg’s west side, and it has brightly painted walls and light wood, like many beach houses.

Various fish, such as swordfish, sea bass, salmon and mahi mahi are featured during the week. “Whatever is in season,” Suchenski said. “We have shipments three times a week.” Suchenski said the restaurant’s salmon and sea bass are two of Blue Fin’s most popular entrees.

The restaurant has a few dishes with a twist. Its shrimp and grits is cooked with a hibiscus-infused tequila butter sauce and is served over ricotta grits. Scallops Mole is scallops sauteed with cayenne pepper and a chocolate butter sauce. Blue Fin also has steaks, including the Blue Fin Filet, which is topped with grilled shrimp, lump crab and a seafood sauce. Some of the restaurant’s pasta choices are gnocchi and ravioli. The restaurant’s soups include she crab soup, New England clam chowder and crawfish bisque. Blue Fin recently offers smaller portions of dinner entrees, like its shrimp and grits, on its lunch menu.
